Intangible cultural heritage, transmitted from generation to generation, is constantly recreated by communities and groups, depending on their surrounding environment, their interaction with nature and history, and forms a sense of identity and continuity. “People’s Chitalishte Probuda-1927 — village of Kalekovets” exists, works and implements actions to ensure the vitality of the intangible cultural heritage for 90 years. The Chitalishte is a center of local self-activity, guardian of traditions, customs and Bulgarian folklore. The local folk and social customs, folklore, music, songs, dances, etc. are kept behind the walls of the community center and in the memory of the local amateurs. Today the Chitalishte is looking for opportunities to adapt to the needs of the modern person and at the same time to continue to preserve, develop and promote intangible cultural values among the young generations of the village. This project proposal sets out one main task directly related to the implementation of activities to ensure the vitality and attractiveness of intangible cultural goods, identification, documentation, preservation, presentation, transmission and promotion, mainly through formal and non-formal education: To preserve, develop, present and popularise Thracian artistic and artistic art and local social custom, transmitted from generation to generation in the village of Kalekovets. By setting this task and implementing the project we want to solve a long-standing problem related to the fragility of the local intangible cultural heritage, because in times of technologies and Internet communications, attractive ways of entertainment and information, an exceptional value is threatened to remain forgotten, unknown and unrequited. This project sets out specific objectives and activities to transfer this cultural wealth of knowledge and skills from generation to generation, who understand it and relive it in a way adequate to our present day, connecting roots and people.
