According to various surveys, immigrants are poorly employed in the Finnish labour market. Lack of Finnish language skills and the fact that skills acquired abroad are not always recognised in the labour market are obstacles to employment. Immigrants often lack contacts with Finnish working life and work experience acquired in Finland, which reduces employment opportunities. Strengthening migrant networks and using mentoring can significantly improve their chances of employment in professions comparable to education and training. At the moment, international experts and the work on offer do not meet. International experts bring with them international contacts and networks that support the growth of the region’s economy. Internationality in development work is important because in different countries networking is developed in different ways. For example, the implementation of mentoring programmes promoting networking and employment varies widely from country to country, e.g. in terms of the type of actors implementing the programmes and the extent to which they operate. The aim of the project is to support the integration of people with an immigrant background, i.e. international talents, into the Finnish labour market. The aim of the project is to develop, test and disseminate mentoring models and practices, as well as to systematise mentoring and the use of networks. The use of migrant professional networks will be developed by increasing their competence to find, find and develop their own working life links and professional networks to support the path to employment. At the international level, the project will identify critical factors in migrant mentoring practices, create minimum criteria for high-quality mentoring using experiments from different countries and clarify the related concepts. In addition, an approach to the operation of networks will be developed with international partners to help employers and employees meet more effectively. The project consists of five work packages: 1) Project management and communication (TUAMK)2) Networks in support of mentoring activities (TAMK)3) Development of training methods (LAMK)4) Building a Mentoring Structure (TUAMK)5) Employing Immigrants via networks and mentoring (international cooperation, LAMK & other national partners)As a result of the project, mentoring practices become systematic, as a result of which the benefits, practices and objectives of mentoring in the employment process are identified, the use of mentoring in employment and cooperation with employers is facilitated. The professional networks of immigrants in working life develop and support employment in the region’s economy. Mentoring methods can be refined and mentoring criteria can be set and evaluated. The aim is to make it easier for companies and other employers in the region to employ or train an immigrant with mentor support. The availability of tools for the exploitation of professional networks will make it easier to find these employers. The project is implemented in Finland by Turku University of Applied Sciences, Lahti University of Applied Sciences and Tampere University of Applied Sciences, as well as international partners KU Leuven (Belgium), Economic House of Osteend (Belgium) and Beyond the Horizon (Belgium). Maahanmuuttajien saaminen työmarkkinoille on ensisijaisen tärkeää. Hankkeen kesto: 1.1.2019-31.12.2021 (Finnish)
