Intelligent lighting and thermal comfort in support of the housing and care service production of people with memory disorders (Valmuska) project aims to study the impact of lighting and other retrofit technologies on the quality of life and behavioural symptoms of memory illness, and to develop and test new, evidence-based and cost-effective solutions to support the home living of memoryally ill people and to reduce the need for care due to behavioural symptoms, for example. The study will be carried out in the care centres in Kuopio and Oulu during 2015 and 2016. Participating cities and companies have a strong will to pilot and develop technologies as part of service production and to use retrofit equipment to support the independent living at home of older people. In addition to people with memory disorders and their loved ones, the project’s target groups are companies that provide care and housing services, as well as companies that develop building automation and well-being technology. The research project is carried out in cooperation with the City of Kuopio, the City of Oulu, VTT, the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Oulu (Research Group on Nursing and Health Administration) and nine companies.
