The aim of the project is to ensure the availability of good groundwater, the supply of high-quality aggregates for urban development and to identify areas suitable for the long-term extraction of aggregates. During the project, comprehensive data will be collected on soil formations, rock areas and protected sites. Particular attention will be paid to studies of groundwater areas for water supply. In addition, information is collected on sites that are valuable for nature and landscape protection and the Land Resources Act. The aim is to establish a master plan classifying aggregates as suitable, partially suitable or unsuitable for extraction. The results of the project will be used in regional and provincial planning, as well as in controlling the location of soil extraction. The aim is to secure the supply of high-quality soil and aggregates to the business community in close proximity to projects. As transport journeys become shorter, harmful emissions from transport will be reduced. The results will benefit municipalities, water utilities, entrepreneurs and public authorities. (Finnish)
