The aim of the project is to define a new system to support the industrial production of electrical wiring when CAD systems are not available for each wire. This is a common scenario in the assembly of small parts wiring, since the cost of modelling all wires and their routes in CAD is too high to achieve a real return. The project is focused on flat wiring models; in other words, the system to be designed should work in 2D on a single plane. The problem with the current routing systems lies in the fact that, when the product is first assembled, the route and length of the wiring are defined manually by the most experienced operators; the first challenge is to ensure that this information can be electronically stored easily and cheaply for use in subsequent assemblies so that it can be used by other operators and the operation can be repeated without complications.
