The global need for optimised agricultural yields and organic production systems is promoting the adoption of alternative and environmentally friendly renewable technologies to improve crop productivity. The uncontrolled use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides in agriculture has led to serious environmental and social problems. The development of biostimulants for nutritional and crop health purposes is a key and environmentally friendly alternative. Biostimulants are mainly produced from natural sources (plants, seaweed, bacteria). But from a commercial perspective, they are not sustainable sources to meet the current demand for biostimulants worldwide._x000D_ In this context, the main objective of the SIMBA project is to develop biostimulant products for organic farming based on microalgae biomass. Microalgae biomass contains some exploitable compounds such as proteins, polyamines, polyphenols, exopolysaccharides, polyalkanes and phytohormones, which are key in the formulation of biostimulants, and represent a key and environmentally friendly alternative for plant nutrition._x000D_ The RIL (India) and KIMITEC (Spain) companies propose the joint development of “biostimulants derived from marine microalgae” as a commercially viable solution. low cost and sustainable organic farming that will improve the efficiency in the consumption of nutrients by crops, as well as tolerance to abiotic stress and the system of defense against pests and diseases._x000D_ In particular, the role of KIMITEC will consist of the development of at least two biostimulants based on microalgae biomass to improve crop yield and plant health.
