Sodium butyrate has been extensively studied in terms of its properties in the intestinal development of piglets and broilers. It has been shown that in young animals it performs contrasting actions in the development of intestinal villi, stimulation of enzymatic activity and absorption of nutrients. However, the inclusion of sodium butyrate in the diet of adult animals has not been studied in order to achieve endocrine regulation of appetite in productive stages of critical feed consumption or non-medicine treatment against enteropathogens under conditions of high infectious pressure. _x000D_ the main objective of the project is to develop both applications from a chemically and physically protected sodium butyrate to ensure its release into the intestine and with high concentrations of active substance. _x000D_ for this purpose, a project has been designed in Consortium formed by Nuevas Tecnologías de Gestión Alimentaria, S.L., Piensos Jiménez, S.L. and Explotaciones Avícolas García Puente, S.L., with three experimental activities: technological improvement of the system for the manufacture of butyrate intended for animal feed; (II) Conquest of new applications in pig feeding; and (iii) Conquest of new applications in feeding laying hens. The execution period is 24 months and its total budget is EUR 1,289 062.00. The project will have the collaboration of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Universidad de León and Imasde Agroalimentaria, S.L., which represents 8.8 % of the total budget of the project.
