The general objectives: Describe the diagnostic process of oropharyngeal cancer COF from the first symptom(s) to the diagnosis and initiation of treatment and establish the time intervals dependent on the patient, the professional and the healthcare system. Also identifying factors associated with diagnostic delay and at time intervals of the process. As well as to evaluate the risk that long first symptom-definitive diagnostic intervals (diagnostic delay) may encourage diagnosis to be established in advanced stages of the disease. Methodology: We have designed a cross-sectional study, considering this study as a variant of a case-control study in terms of sample calculation, analysis and presentation of results. The COF included will be cases of cancer with histological diagnosis of FOC diagnosed during the inclusion period (2.5 years) in the CHUAC (Coruña), Hospital Povisa (Vigo) and Facultad Medicina-Odontologia (Santiago de Compostela), which have open history in a health center in their health areas. These hospitals serve as reference to 24 minor hospitals, 356 health centres and 1797000 inhabitants. The variables studied will be the patient’s sociodemographic and clinical variables, those specific to the tumor (type, degree of malignancy, Ki-67, p14, p21, p27, PRB, Caderin E, CD44, matrix metalloproteinases, Bax), and the health system Odds Ratio will be used as a measure of association between intervals and MRT at the time of diagnosis.
