The overall objective of the SISTEM-EP project is to develop a specific telemedicine system for early diagnosis of low-cost lung diseases (e.g. COPD) designed to operate in rural communities; especially those with a high level of dispersion or remote location (or complicated access) compared to the city._x000D_ _x000D_ The SISTEM-EP system is designed to suit the needs of two types of user profiles, which define two client profiles and two distinct business models:_x000D_ a) People inhabiting rural populations, in particularly remote locations which, as a result, have difficulties in accessing a quality health system that allows them to access specialised medicine services._x000D_ b) Workers displaced to remote locations (mines, plantations, oil fields, open pits, etc.) whose work presents certain levels of risk of suffering, in the medium or long term, lung diseases._x000D_ _x000D_ The achievement of this general objective will be achieved by the following technological developments: A device for the collection and capture of medical data; an expert system to identify possible anomalous or respiratory health risk situations; a low-cost telemedicine platform to transmit all relevant information for the diagnosis of identified risk situations; and an integrated platform with hospital management systems and medical records (compatible with the standard of interoperability of health systems HL7). All these developments will be validated in a pilot test in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed solution. This pilot will be conducted in rural communities with relevant prevalence of chronic respiratory diseases (COPD) both in Peru (Dpto. Junín) as from Spain (mining basins of Asturias). (English)
