Changes in value systems, increased life expectancy and the transformation of the way of understanding the disease lead to a greater presence in patients of desire to die (Ddm). The perception of deterioration of one’s dignity is supposed to be a determinant of Ddm, but it is worth studying the association and deepening the phenomenon. OBJECTIVES: a) identify contributing factors of Ddm (including perception of dignity) in our environment and b) know the experiences of patients with advanced disease and Ddm. Secondary objectives: I) assess feasibility of systematically maintaining an interview on Ddm, ii) study whether exploring produces immediate changes in Ddm intensity, iii) compare in populations different Ddm factors and iv) know the experience of the professionals exploring it. METHOD: Multicenter study of mixed methodology (combination of quantitative and qualitative methodology). Socio-demographic and clinical data shall be recorded. Will be evaluated (in 2 successive days) desire to die (AFIDD), intensity of symptoms (ESAS-r), perception of dignity (PDI), anxiety and depression (HADS), and demoralisation (DS-II). Patient experience will be explored through conversational interviews. Focus groups will be held with professionals. The quantitative data will be analysed with logistic regression. Qualitative information will be analysed using a hermeneutic phenomenological approach. This innovative study will allow you to understand different Ddm typologies, facilitating personalised interventions to improve quality of life. (English) | |||||||||||||||

(Spanish)
