Objective: Evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention by using social media and instant messaging to quit smoking in cancer survivors. Methodology: Open randomised clinical trial of two branches (1:1) in parallel: Intervention Group (GI) and Control Group (GC) of Smoking Cancer Survivors Attended at the Catalan Institute of Oncology. The IG will receive personalised material, proactive remote care through participation in a private Facebook group and contact by WhatsApp with a therapist specialising in the treatment of smoking. The GC only generic material on how to quit and reactive participation in a private Facebook group. Groups of 15 patients will be formed to facilitate dynamics and management. Sample size: calculated with an estimated difference between 15 % abstinence group, errors a=0.05 and ß=0.20, and 20 % losses, 87 subjects in the GC and 87 in the IG will be specified, which will be doubled for post-hoc analysis (n total=348). Variables: prolonged and punctual withdrawal from tobacco use (self-reported and verified by exhaled CO), abandonment attempts, withdrawal time, motivation and self-efficacy, along with the assessment of the quality of life before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis: multilevel logistic regression models for calculating odds ratio and 95 % confidence intervals of abstinence adjusted for potential confusing variables. The number of smokers who would need to be treated (NNT and their 95 % CI) will be calculated over one year to achieve a abstinent Person Expected Results: abstinence rate 15 % higher in the IG than the GC.
