RECIENTEMENTE, SE HA DEMOSTRADO QUE LA ACIDIFICACION OCEANICA (OA, VERSION INGLESA) ES UNA AMENAZA SOBRE LOS ECOSISTEMAS MARINOS. SU IMPACTO SE PRONOSTICA QUE SERA MAS INMINENTE EN LOS ECOSISTEMAS DE AGUAS FRIAS Y EN AQUELLOS OTROS AFECTADOS POR EL AFLORAMIENTO COMO LAS RIAS. ARIOS PLANTEA EL RETO DE GENERAR HERRAMIENTAS CLAVE PARA LA EVALUACION DEL IMPACTO DE LA OA EN LOS ECOSISTEMAS DE LA PLATAFORMA IBERICA Y RIAS GALLEGAS. EN CONCRETO, EL DESARROLLO Y LA OPTIMIZACION DE LA OBSERVACION DE LA OA, LA MODELIZACION DE ESCENARIOS CLIMATICOS DE LA OA EN LA CUENCA IBERICA, PLATAFORMA CONTINENTAL Y RIAS BAIXAS, Y LA EVALUACION DEL POSIBLE IMPACTO EN LA MITICULTURA POR LA OA EN COMBINACION CON OTROS FACTORES AMBIENTALES. ESTAS HERRAMIENTAS SON FUNDAMENTALES PARA DAR RESPUESTA A LAS CUESTIONES PLANTEADAS EN EL PLAN NACIONAL DE ADAPTACION AL CAMBIO CLIMATICO (CC) CON EL FIN DE EVALUAR LOS RIESGOS ECONOMICOS RELACIONADOS CON LA OA Y PROPONER ESCENARIOS REALISTAS PARA LA ADAPTACION, Y ALTERNATIVAS DE ESPECIFICAS MITIGACION. JUNTO CON REPRESENTANTES DEL SECTOR DE LA ACUICULTURA, ARIOS COORDINA A INVESTIGADORES CON EXPERIENCIA EN LA OBSERVACION DE LA OA EN EL ATLANTICO, A EXPERIMENTADOS MODELADORES DE LA DINAMICA Y BIOGEOQUIMICA COSTERA Y OCEANICA, Y A EXPERTOS CIENTIFICOS EN LA FISIOLOGIA DE BIVALVOS._x000D_ SE DISPONE ACTUALMENTE DE DATOS DE PH EN AGUAS COSTERAS GALLEGAS QUE SE EXTIENDEN DESDE 1974-2008 Y BASES DE DATOS INTERNACIONALES DEL SISTEMA DEL CO2 EN EL MARGEN OCEANICO IBERICO QUE SE COMPLEMENTAN CON DATOS SUPERFICIALES DE CO2, PARA REALIZAR UNA SERIE DE CLIMATOLOGIAS ESTACIONALES DEL PH Y DE SATURACION DE CACO3. PARA ELLO SE UTILIZARAN DISTINTAS TECNICAS DE INTERPOLACION PROBADAS CON EXITO ANTERIORMENTE. SE AMPLIARA LA COBERTURA TEMPORAL CON LAS OBSERVACIONES EN UNA RADIAL MENSUAL EN LA RIA DE VIGO Y CON LAS INSTALACION DE SISTEMAS AUTONOMOS._x000D_ PARA CUANTIFICAR Y EVALUAR EL FUTURO IMPACTO DE LA OA ES NECESARIO DISEÑAR HERRAMIENTAS PARA DESENTRAÑAR LAS INTERACCIONES FISICAS Y BIOGEOQUIMICOS A NIVEL DE ECOSISTEMA. EL ECOSISTEMA DEL AFLORAMIENTO IBERICO (EAI) TIENE COMPLEJAS E INTENSAS DE INTERACCIONES FISICAS Y BIOGEOQUIMICAS, DONDE LA SINTESIS Y DEGRADACION DE LA MATERIA ORGANICA ES DOMINANTE A ESCALA ESTACIONAL. ARIOS IMPLEMENTARA SIMULACIONES DEL CICLO DEL CARBONO A VARIAS ESCALAS ESPACIALES EN UN MODELO DE ACOPLAMIENTO FISICO-BIOGEOQUIMICO QUE PERMITIRAN EVALUAR LA VARIABILIDAD ESPACIO-TEMPORAL DEL SISTEMA DEL CO2, INCLUIDO EL INTERCAMBIO DE CO2 AIRE-MAR Y PREDECIR SU EVOLUCION FUTURA FORZADA POR EL CC._x000D_ CONSIDERANDO LOS ASPECTOS ECONOMICOS Y AMBIENTALES QUE CONCURREN EN EL MEJILLON, ARIOS ABORDA ASPECTOS DE LA DINAMICA DE ESTE MITILIDO CULTIVADO EN LAS RIAS Y LA FAUNA ASOCIADA A SU CICLO DE CULTIVO EN UN MARCO DE CAMBIO ABIOTICO ACTUAL Y FUTURO, Y ESPECIAL RELACION A LA OA. ARIOS PLANTEA UNA INVESTIGACION APLICADA PARA DESARROLLAR UNA PLATAFORMA DE CONOCIMIENTO EXHAUSTIVA INTEGRANDO POTENCIALES IMPACTOS Y/O ADAPTACIONES DE LOS ORGANISMOS AL NUEVO ESCENARIO DE CC PARA ESTE RECURSO CULTIVADO EN GALICIA DE GRAN IMPORTANCIA TANTO EN ASPECTOS DE BIODIVERSIDAD COMO SOCIO-ECONOMICOS. ARIOS PROPONE, ADEMAS, UN ANALISIS DESDE DIFERENTES NIVELES DE ORGANIZACION BIOLOGICOS COMO ES EL INDIVIDUAL Y ECOSISTEMICO ASUMIENDO LA IMPORTANCIA DE LAS INTERACCIONES INTER-ESPECIFICAS BIEN ENTRE DIFERENTES MITILIDOS BIEN OTRAS ESPECIES QUE HABITUALMENTE APARECEN EN ZONAS DE CULTIVO Y DE LAS QUE POCO SE CONOCE EN SU INTERACCION CON EL MEJILLON.
