ESTE PROYECTO TIENE COMO OBJETIVO AVANZAR EN EL DESARROLLO DE DETECTORES DE RADIACION BASADOS EN SENSORES SUPERCONDUCTORES DE TRANSICION ABRUPTA (TES) DE MO/AU, QUE EL EQUIPO PROPONENTE VIENE LLEVANDO A CABO DE FORMA PIONERA EN ESPAÑA. LOS DETECTORES DE RADIACION BASADOS EN TES SON MICROCALORIMETROS CRIOGENICOS DE ALTAS PRESTACIONES: CONSTITUYEN LA BASE PARA EL INSTRUMENTO X-IFU DE LA MISION ATHENA DE LA AGENCIA ESPACIAL EUROPEA, ADEMAS DE CONSIDERARSE INSTRUMENTACION DE FRONTERA, CON MULTITUD DE APLICACIONES CIENTIFICAS (FUNDAMENTALMENTE EN ASTRONOMIA) E INDUSTRIALES. EL EQUIPO CIENTIFICO PROPONENTE HA CONSEGUIDO YA FABRICAR Y CARACTERIZAR DETECTORES TES DE MO/AU, LOGRO QUE LE HA VALIDO FORMAR PARTE DEL EQUIPO QUE DESARROLLA EL BACKUP EUROPEO DE X-IFU, EN EL CONSORCIO DE ESTE Y EN UN CONTRATO DE LA ESA (CORE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM), ASI COMO EN UN PROYECTO H2020 DEDICADO A INFRAESTRUCTURAS PARA ASTROFISICA DE ALTAS ENERGIAS (AHEAD). LOS OBJETIVOS DE LA PRESENTE PROPUESTA SON CONTINUAR ESTA ACTIVIDAD DE I+D+I, HACIENDO HINCAPIE EN LOS ASPECTOS CLAVE IDENTIFICADOS PARA PODER OPTIMIZAR LAS PRESTACIONES DE PIXELES INDIVIDUALES (TRABAJO ESTE QUE SE INSERTA EN LA INVESTIGACION INTERNACIONAL ACTUAL EN ESTE TIPO DE DETECTORES) Y A LA VEZ AMPLIAR LA INVESTIGACION EN DOS ASPECTOS: (1) DESARROLLO DE ARRAYS (CUYA OPTIMIZACION AFRONTA RETOS ADICIONALES EN LA FABRICACION Y EN LA LECTURA), Y (2) INICIAR LOS PASOS PARA DESARROLLAR DETECTORES DE OTROS TIPOS DE RADIACION Y PARA OTRAS POSIBLES APLICACIONES DE INTERES. THIS PROJECT AIMS TO ADVANCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF RADIATION DETECTORS BASED ON SUPERCONDUCTIVE MO/AU ABRUPT TRANSITION (TES) SENSORS, WHICH THE PROPOSING TEAM IS CARRYING OUT PIONEERING IN SPAIN. TES BASED RADIATION DETECTORS ARE HIGH PERFORMANCE CRYOGENIC MICROCALORIMETROS: THEY FORM THE BASIS FOR THE X-IFU INSTRUMENT OF THE EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY’S ATHENA MISSION, IN ADDITION TO BEING CONSIDERED BORDER INSTRUMENTATION, WITH A MULTITUDE OF SCIENTIFIC APPLICATIONS (MAINLY IN ASTRONOMY) AND INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS. THE PROPOSED SCIENTIFIC TEAM HAS ALREADY MANAGED TO MANUFACTURE AND CHARACTERISE DETECTORS TES DE MO/AU, AN ACHIEVEMENT THAT HAS EARNED IT TO BE PART OF THE TEAM THAT DEVELOPS THE EUROPEAN BACKUP OF X-IFU, IN ITS CONSORTIUM AND IN A CONTRACT OF THE SAME (CORE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM), AS WELL AS IN A PROJECT H2020 DEDICATED TO INFRASTRUCTURES FOR HIGH ENERGY ASTROPHYSICS (AHEAD). THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS PROPOSAL ARE TO CONTINUE THIS R & D & I ACTIVITY, FOCUSING ON THE KEY ASPECTS IDENTIFIED IN ORDER TO OPTIMISE THE PERFORMANCE OF INDIVIDUAL PIXELS (THIS WORK IS INSERTED IN THE CURRENT INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH IN THIS TYPE OF DETECTORS) AND AT THE SAME TIME EXPAND THE RESEARCH IN TWO ASPECTS: (1) DEVELOPMENT OF ARRAYS (WHOSE OPTIMISATION FACES ADDITIONAL CHALLENGES IN MANUFACTURING AND READING), AND (2) INITIATE THE STEPS TO DEVELOP DETECTORS OF OTHER TYPES OF RADIATION AND FOR OTHER POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS OF INTEREST.
