EL OBJETIVO PRINCIPAL DE ESTE PROYECTO ES DESARROLLAR Y EVALUAR SISTEMAS INTERACTIVOS BASADOS EN INTERFACES DE USUARIO NATURALES (NUI) APLICADOS A LA MEJORA DE LAS TECNICAS DE REHABILITACION, ESTIMULACION Y EVALUACION MEDICA. LAS NUI SE CONSIDERAN EL SIGUIENTE PASO EN LA EVOLUCION DE LAS INTERFACES DE USUARIO DONDE LA INTERACCION SE LLEVA A CABO MEDIANTE LAS CAPACIDADES NATURALES Y COMPORTAMIENTOS PROPIOS DE LOS SERES HUMANOS, POR EJEMPLO, MEDIANTE TACTO, MOVIMIENTO, GESTOS, SEÑALES NEURONALES, ETC. HACIENDO ASI QUE LA INTERACCION SEA MAS INTUTITIVA Y NATURAL YA QUE NO SE LIMITA AL RATON Y TECLADO, COMO OCURRE EN LAS TRADICIONALES INTERFACES GRAFICAS. EL PROYECTO SE DESCRIBE EN BASE A TRES ELEMENTOS: EL PROBLEMA A RESOLVER, LA SOLUCION PROPUESTA Y EL EQUIPO RESPONSABLE DE REALIZARLO._x000D_ EL PROBLEMA A RESOLVER SE SITUA EN EL AMBITO DE LA SALUD. LOS PROFESIONALES DE LOS CAMPOS DE REHABILITACION-ESTIMULACION, Y DE LA EVALUACION DEL DAÑO NEUROLOGICO, DEBEN ENFRENTARSE AL PROCESO DE INTEGRACION DE DIFERENTES TECNOLOGIAS EN SUS TERAPIAS, Y DEBEN GESTIONAR UN ECOSISTEMA HETEROGENEO DE MULTIPLES PANTALLAS Y DISPOSITIVOS, QUE DIFICULTAN LA ACTIVIDAD DE LOS PROFESIONALES DE LA SALUD Y DE LOS PACIENTES. UNA ADECUADA INTEGRACION DE TECNOLOGIAS EN ESTOS DOS CAMPOS DE LA SALUD PROPORCIONARA A LOS USUARIOS UNOS SISTEMAS INTERACTIVOS MUCHO MAS NATURALES Y FLEXIBLES QUE LOS ACTUALES, REDUCIENDO ADEMAS LA BRECHA TECNOLOGICA QUE EN MUCHAS OCASIONES GENERAN LAS NUEVAS TECNOLOGIAS._x000D_ LA SOLUCION INCLUYE AVANCES EN LOS SIGUIENTES CAMPOS: PRIMERO, CONTRIBUIR AL DESARROLLO DEL PARADIGMA DE INTERFACES DE USUARIO DISTRIBUIBLES/DISTRIBUIDAS (DUI, DEUI) Y AL DE INTERACCIONES DISTRIBUIDAS (OBJETIVO-1), DE TAL MANERA QUE EL USUARIO PUEDA INTERACTUAR, EN UN DETERMINADO CONTEXTO DE USO, SOBRE UN ECOSISTEMA HETEROGENEO DE MULTIPLES PANTALLAS COMO SI FUERA UN DISPOSITIVO UNICO; SEGUNDO, EL DISEÑO DE NUEVOS MECANISMOS DE INTERACCION BASADOS EN NUI, QUE INVOLUCRAN LAS SIGUIENTES TECNOLOGIAS: INTERFACES DE USUARIO TANGIBLES, INTERACCION BASADA EN EL MOVIMIENTO, COMPUTACION AFECTIVA, E INTERFACES CEREBRALES (OBJETIVO-2); TERCERO, EL DESARROLLO DE SISTEMAS INTERACTIVOS APLICANDO LOS MECANISMOS DE INTERACCION ANTERIORES BASADOS EN NUI UTILIZANDO LAS ARQUITECTURAS DUI DEFINIDAS PREVIAMENTE (OBJETIVO-3); Y FINALMENTE, LA EVALUACION DE LOS SISTEMAS INTERACTIVOS DESARROLLADOS CON PARTICIPACION DE USUARIOS REALES (OBJETIVOS 4 Y 5). PARA LOGRAR ESTOS OBJETIVOS, SE PROPONEN VARIAS LINEAS DE ACCION. EL DISEÑO DE ARQUITECTURAS SOFTWARE QUE SOPORTEN SISTEMAS DUI/DEUI. UNA VEZ DEFINIDA LA ARQUITECTURA, CONTRIBUIREMOS AL PROGRESO EN EL CAMPO DE LOS MECANISMOS DE INTERACCION BASADOS EN NUI. EN CADA UNO DE ESTOS CAMPOS, SE DESARROLLARAN Y EVALUARAN DIFERENTES PROTOTIPOS APLICADOS A LOS DOS CAMPOS DE SALUD MENCIONADOS._x000D_ EL PROYECTO SERA LLEVADO A CABO POR UN EQUIPO DE INVESTIGACION FORMADO POR 4 INVESTIGADORES CON EXPERIENCIA PREVIA EN EL CAMPO, Y UN EQUIPO DE TRABAJO MULTIDISCIPLINAR COMPUESTO POR 8 EXPERTOS EN DIFERENTES CAMPOS DE LA SALUD Y LA INFORMATICA._x000D_ LOS PRINCIPALES RESULTADOS DEL PROYECTO SERAN EL DESARROLLO DE ARQUITECTURAS SOFTWARE PARA SOPORTAR LOS NUEVOS SISTEMAS BASADOS EN DUI Y NUI; AVANCES EN EL CAMPO DE LA INTERACCION BASADA EN NUI; Y FINALMENTE, LA GENERACION Y EVALUACION DE PROTOTIPOS APLICADOS A LAS TERAPIAS DE SALUD. ADEMAS DE VALIDAR LA CALIDAD EN USO, SE LLEVARAN A CABO ESTUDIOS EXPERIMENTALES PARA VALIDAR TAMBIEN LA EFICACIA TERAPEUTICA DE LOS SISTEMAS DESARROLLADOS. (Spanish)

THE MAIN GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP AND EVALUATE INTERACTIVE SYSTEMS BASED ON NATURAL USER INTERFACES (NUI) APPLIED TO IMPROVE REHABILITATION-STIMULATION AND MEDICAL ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES. NUIS ARE CONSIDERED THE NEXT STEP IN THE EVOLUTION OF USER INTERFACES WHERE INTERACTION IS CARRIED OUT THROUGH THE NATURAL SKILLS AND BEHAVIORS OF HUMAN BEINGS, FOR EXAMPLE, BY TOUCH, MOVEMENT, GESTURES, NEURONAL SIGNALS, ETC. MAKING THE INTERACTION MORE INTUTIVE AND NATURAL, SINCE IT IS NOT LIMITED TO THE MOUSE AND KEYBOARD, AS IN THE TRADITIONAL GRAPHICAL INTERFACES. THIS PROPOSAL DESCRIBES THE PROJECT USING THREE ELEMENTS: THE PROBLEM TO SOLVE, THE SOLUTION PROPOSED AND THE TEAM RESPONSIBLE FOR PERFORMING IT. _x000D_ THE PROBLEM IS DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS. HEALTH PROFESSIONALS FROM THE FIELDS OF REHABILITATION-STIMULATION, AND FROM THE NEUROLOGICAL DAMAGE ASSESSMENT, HAVE TO FACE THE PROCESS OF INTEGRATING DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGIES IN THEIR THERAPIES. THEY HAVE TO MANAGE A HETEROGENEOUS MULTI-DISPLAY, MULTI-DEVICE, MULTI-APP ECOSYSTEM, WHICH HAMPERS THE ACTIVITY OF HEALTH PROFESSIONALS AND PATIENTS. AN ADEQUATE INTEGRATION OF TECHNOLOGIES IN THESE TWO FIELDS WILL PROVIDE USERS WITH INTERACTIVE SYSTEMS MUCH MORE NATURAL AND FLEXIBLE THAN THE CURRENT ONES, ALSO REDUCING THE TECHNOLOGICAL GAP THAT IN MANY CASES NEW TECHNOLOGIES GENERATE. _x000D_ THE SOLUTION INCLUDES ADVANCEMENTS IN THE FOLLOWING FIELDS: FIRSTLY, CONTRIBUTING TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE DISTRIBUTED-DISTRIBUTABLE USER INTERFACES (DUI, DEUI) AND DISTRIBUTED INTERACTIONS PARADIGMS (OBJECTIVE-1), IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE USER CAN INTERACT, IN A DEFINED CONTEXT OF USE, ON AN HETEROGENEOUS MULTI-DISPLAY ECOSYSTEM AS IF IT WERE A UNIQUE DEVICE; SECONDLY, THE DESIGN OF NEW INTERACTION MECHANISMS BASED ON NUIS, WHICH INVOLVES THE FOLLOWING TECHNOLOGIES: TANGIBLE USER INTERFACES, MOVEMENT-BASED INTERACTION, AFFECTIVE COMPUTING AND BRAIN-COMPUTER INTERFACES (OBJECTIVE-2); THIRDLY, THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERACTIVE SYSTEMS APPLYING THE PREVIOUS INTERACTION MECHANISMS BASED ON NUI ON THE DEFINED DUI-BASED ARCHITECTURES (OBJECTIVE-3); AND FINALLY, THE EVALUATION OF THE DEVELOPED INTERACTIVE SYSTEMS WITH REAL USERS (OBJECTIVES 4 AND 5). TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS, SEVERAL LINES OF ACTION ARE PROPOSED. FIRST OF ALL, THE DESIGN OF SOFTWARE ARCHITECTURES THAT SUPPORT SYSTEMS WITH DISTRIBUTED (DUI) AND DISTRIBUTABLE (DEUI) USER INTERFACES. ONCE THE ARCHITECTURE IS DEFINED, WE WILL CONTRIBUTE PROGRESS IN THE FIELD OF INTERACTION MECHANISMS BASED ON NUI, WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE PREVIOUSLY DEFINED ARCHITECTURE. IN EACH OF THESE FIELDS, THE DEFINITION, DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF DIFFERENT PROTOTYPES WILL BE CARRIED OUT, APPLIED TO THE TWO HEALTH FIELDS MENTIONED. _x000D_ THESE OBJECTIVES WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY AN EXPERIENCED PROJECT TEAM DIVIDED INTO A RESEARCH TEAM WITH 4 RESEARCHERS WITH PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF THIS PROJECT, AND THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY WORK TEAM COMPOSED BY 8 EXPERTS IN DIFFERENT FIELDS (HEALTH, REHABILITATION, COMPUTER SCIENCE, AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY)._x000D_ THE MAIN RESULTS OF THE PROJECT WILL BE THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOFTWARE ARCHITECTURES TO SUPPORT THE NEW SYSTEMS BASED ON DUI AND NUI; ADVANCES IN THE FIELD OF NUI-BASED INTERACTION; AND FINALLY, THE GENERATION AND EVALUATION OF PROTOTYPES APPLIED TO HEALTH THERAPIES. IN ADDITION TO VALIDATING QUALITY IN USE AND USER EXPERIENCE, EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES WILL BE CARRIED OUT TO VALIDATE ALSO THE THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY OF THE DEVELOPED SYSTEMS. (English)
