PP Stonáč je zbytkem původních slepých ramen řeky Moravy, tzv. hanáckých tůní. Sestává se z mělké doliny s pramenisky a tůněmi, do jejíž střední části přitéká vodoteč Stonáč. Mimo statut přírodní památky je lokalita součástí soustavy Natura 2000 jako EVL Stonáč CZ 0723424. Dále je lokalita součástí ÚSES a to jako nivní osa NRBK K 142N s vloženým lokálním biocentrem LBC Stonáč 300187. Nadregionální biokoridor propojuje v širších vztazích NRBC Chropyňský luh s NRBC Soutok. (Czech)
