The general objective of this project is to improve the access of the population to health programs and medical preventive services, prenatal screening, diagnosis and early treatment for the main pathologies of pregnant and child, with impact on improving the health of the mother and child and reducing the risk of child and maternal death in the West Region. The general objective of the project contributes to the achievement of the specific objective 4.9 of POCU – Increasing the number of people benefiting from health programs and services oriented towards prevention, early detection (screening), diagnosis and early treatment for the main pathologies, proposing a pilot model that will improve the access of the population in West Region to health programs and to medical preventive services, prenatal screening, diagnosis and early treatment for the main pathologies of pregnant and child. The project proposes a model of intervention in a barometer field of social status and poverty: infant mortality. The rate of child mortality, a tool that measures the health and well-being of a nation, has halved in the last 10 years in Romania, but has remained almost double compared to the European average. According to data published by EUROSTAT, Romania had also in 2018 the highest rate of child mortality in the European Union: 6 deaths per 1,000 live births, well above the European average of 3.4 deaths per 1,000 live birthers, far from the average of the region, Hungary having an average of 4.5 deaths per 1,000 live births. The causes that led to this situation are complex, including the low level of access of the population to health programs and to preventive medical services, prenatal screening, diagnosis and early treatment for the main pathologies of pregnant and child. The health of pregnant women and children is a public health priority. In the National Health Strategy 2014-2020, the priority is to reduce child mortality and the risk of neonatal death by increasing access to adequate care. Given the importance of the problem, in the conditions of increasing the prevalence of congenital malformations, the percentage of premature births and maternal-infant mortality, the project proposes a pilot, integrated and replicable model for improving the access of the population in the West Region to health programs and to preventive medical services, prenatal screening, early diagnosis and treatment for the main pathologies of pregnant and child. The partnership of the project consists of two important medical institutions from the West Region, the County Emergency Clinic Hospital “Pius Brinzeu”Timisoara and the Municipal Emergency Clinic Hospital Timisoara, which have in the structure of the departments of obstetrics-gynecology and neonatology hierarchical level 3 according to the Order of the Minister of Health (English)
