The general objective of the project is to strengthen the participation – scientifically – of Romanian consortiums and organisations in the activities within the pan-European infrastructure DANUBIUS-RI, in the field of integrated studies on sustainable exploitation of bioresources from the Danube Delta-Danube-Black Sea system. By carrying out the proposed activities, the results of the project will primarily contribute to the crystallisation of the Romanian participation in DANUBIUS-RI but also to the development of scientific potential in a unique area in Europe and of great interest for the European scientific community (“Danube Delta – natural laboratory in Europe”). Thus, the proposed R & D objectives and activities are an integral part of the Scientific Agenda of DANUBIUS-RI complementary to the EU actions of the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme and also to the National and European Strategies. The central element of the project is defined by a scientific program focused on the study of natural intervention mechanisms and adaptation to the challenges caused by climate change and those induced by human activities. It will then allow the development of concrete applications by transferring the acquired knowledge to users. The field is of maximum interest in European research and participates directly in the efforts sustained in the direction of environmental protection in the Danube region by restoring and maintaining water quality, with consequences on biodiversity conservation, taking into account the economic, social, cultural and regional development needs specific to the Danube Delta. The objectives (and implicitly the activities) proposed in the project are an integral part of the Scientific Agenda of the future DANUBIUS-RI infrastructure. Thus, through the estimated results, the D3MN project offers a solid support for the development of a first pilot project applied with major scientific potential that will strengthen the participation and integration of the Romanian community in European research in the scientific fields addressed by DANUBIUS-RI (e.g. ecology, protection of ecosystems specific to wet environments, etc.). From this persepective, each specific objective is materialised by specific results whose exploitation is aimed both at creating knowledge and transferring it to users, in the context of operationalising the future DANUBIUS-RI infrastructure. Moreover, the D3MN project will generate fundamental information needed to outline an integrated management plan for sustainable development of the South-East Region (containing the territory of the Danube Delta and the adjacent coastal zone), including the restoration and preservation of the Danube ecosystem services present in our country. The aim is to continue and expand the dialogue and exchange of knowledge with the main sectors of activity that led to the current situation characterised by an advanced degradation of some of the Romanian Danube ecosystems. Obiectivele (si implicit activitatile) propuse in proiect sunt parte integranta a Agendei Stiintifice a viitoarei infrastructuri DANUBIUS-RI.
