1.1.1. Brief description of the project summary The aim of the project is to create and clinically validate a new type of portable device and cloud computing service for early diagnosis of skin melanoma and other cancers (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma), post-operative scar monitoring and early recognition of tumour recurrence. The diagnostic process will consist of spectral and fluorescent imaging, wireless data transfer via mobile networks, image processing in a cloud service and remote access to diagnostic results. For non-contact skin diagnosis methods of diffuse reflection and fluorescence photo-fading parameters will be combined under specific skin lighting. The prototype device and cloud computing service will be clinically tested on various malignant and benign skin formation groups at the Latvian Oncology Centre and doctors’ internships. The creation of such a device will significantly improve the availability of early diagnosis and post-operative monitoring of skin cancer, increasing the life expectancy and quality of people. The project research team will be composed of experienced biophotonics, electronics and oncology experts, as well as young scientists from the University of Latvia (LU) and Riga Technical University (RTU). Diagnostics, display, diffuse reflection, fluorescence, photo fading, embedded microcontroller, cloud computing.1.1.2.Complete description of the project The aim of the project is to create and clinically validate a new type of portable device and cloud computing service for early diagnosis of skin melanoma and other types of cancer (basic cell cancer, squamous cell cancer), post-operative scar monitoring and early recognition of tumour recurrence. The project is in line with the medical and health sciences sector (3Medical and health sciences, 3.3.Health sciences/Medical engineering). The project is non-economic and provides for industrial research and experimental development. The following results are planned: 4 Portable Devices (new product) prototypes for contactless skin cancer diagnosis, 9 original scientific articles (2 of them in high citation index magazines), technology law-knowledge about developed product and licensing agreement (intended after the end of the project). The total cost of the project is EUR 648586,73, of which ERDF support is EUR 551298,72.The project is planned to be implemented for 26 months from 1 March 2017 to 30 April 2019 (English) | |||||||||||||||

Projekts atbilst medicīnas un veselības zinātnes nozarei (3.Medical and health sciences, 3.3.Health sciences/Medical engineering). Projekta kopējās izmaksas ir 648 586,73 EUR, no tām ERAF atbalsta apjoms sastāda 551 298,72 EUR.Projektu paredzēts īstenot 26 mēnešus no 2017. gada 1. marta līdz 2019. gada 30. aprīlim (Latvian)
